Testing a YouTube Thumbnail

How to start a YouTube thumbnail test

Assuming you have already created an account and logged in, you can begin your first YouTube thumbnail test by heading over to New Test page. If you have not yet logged into PicVibe, you will be directed through the login page.

In various places of the PicVibe site, you may see this button:

Clicking the above button will also direct you to the YouTube thumbnail test creation page. Once you have arrived on the New Test page, you can upload your Youtube thumbnail image to the form within, along with the title of your YouTube video. Once both elements of the form have been filled, you can submit your YouTube thumbnail experiment to the PicVibe community.

Once submitted, your YouTube thumbnail test will be rated by the community while your Vibe Points stay above 0.

Please make sure you familiarise yourself with the YouTube thumbnail test rules at the bottom of New Test page.

How do I get Vibe Points?

Vibe Points are used to get ratings on your YouTube thumbnail tests. There are two ways to get Vibe Points on PicVibe:

  1. Earn points by rating other users' thumbnails thoughtfully
  2. Buy points from the Get Points page, for as little as $9 for 40 Vibe Points.

One Vibe Point is equal to one rating from a PicVibe user. However, your YouTube thumbnail will be prioritised, and shown to our most thoughtful and helpful users first.

YouTube thumbnail test posting rules

While we expect and encourage a general politeness and helpfulness from our users towards others while using PicVibe, we have three rules that must be adhered to at all times

  1. Only thumbnails that do not break YouTubes standards are allowed
  2. Only thumbnails and titles in English are allowed
  3. Thumbnails must only be posted once to the site - simply changing the title on further posts is not enough

The moderators reserve the right to remove YouTube thumbnail tests that do not adhere to our rules. Users who break the rules multiple times, or severely, may have their account permenantly deleted without prior notice.

How to pause and resume my YouTube thumbnail test

You can pause and resume your YouTube thumbnail test whenever you choose in the My Tests page.

At the top of each thumbnail test you will see a button with a green play symbol ( if the thumbnail test is already paused) or a red pause button ( if the thumbnail test is active)

  • Pressing the green play button () will resume your thumbnail test
  • Pressing the red pause button () will pause your thumbnail test

When active, your thumbnail test will be rated by other users until you run out of Vibe Points. Make sure you pause tests on which you do not wish to receive ratings.

How accurate are the test results?

The results of YouTube thumbnail tests on PicVibe are incredibly accurate. Users on PicVibe are incentivised to answer thoughtfully and helpfully. Users who do so are detected by our AI system and ranked against less helpful users. Users who are most helpful are awarded by having their YouTube thumbnail tests shown to other users with a track record of helpfulness.

In turn, the general PicVibe user answers thoughtfully, and with a helpful comment to provide feedback on your YouTube thumbnail.

Users who answer thoughtlessly or too quickly are picked up by our AI system, and their thumbnail ratings are disregarded. Users who act unethically on the platform may also be permenantly banned, or otherwise shadow-banned without warning.

How long does it take to get my thumbnail test results?

It depends on how many Vibe Points you have. Generally, it only takes a few minutes to start receiving ratings on your thumbnails.

After the first rating is cast on your YouTube thumbnail, your results are available for viewing immediately.

What kind of feedback should I expect on my thumbnails?

Thoughtful ratings, and insightful comments.

The PicVibe community has shown that it truly cares about helping one-another in improving the YouTube thumbnails submitted to the website. You can expect detailed and insightful comments, often, particularly if you have been participating thoughtfully on the platform. You will also be rated by the most highly-ranked users, if you supported the website by buying a PRO or PLUS subscription - or if you bought points via a topup pack.

The PicVibe community is an exceptional resource for anyone wishing to A/B test or otherwise optimise their YouTube thumbnails and YouTube video titles.

A/B testing YouTube thumbnails

You can use PicVibe to A/B test your YouTube thumbnails, or otherwise compare a group of YouTube thumbnails, to compare the differences in their effectiveness. We encourage users to upload multiple different thumbnails to the PicVibe website. However, we advise that uploading the same YouTube thumbnail more than once, with a different title, is not allowed.
